What does a pet pawtrait session involve?
Firstly, we agree on a location that both the owner and dog are comfortable/familiar with. If I am unaware of the location, I will undertake some "scouting" trips to make sure the location is suitable, and will take some test images – often just using my backpack as a substitute for a dog.
The session itself will usually last at least an hour, and I prefer to initially walk with the owners and their dog(s) for around 10-15 minutes to allow the dog(s) to get used to me, and answer any questions. During the shoot, I will let the dog owners see some images directly from the camera and also keep a check that everyone (especially our four legged friends) are happy and comfortable.
After the session, I will pick 8-15 images and begin to edit them, sharing at least one image within 48 hours. All selected images are usually ready to view in a private on-line gallery within 7 working days. I will then let the client choose which images they would want to be framed, and look at some framing options for them. I really like to build a finished product with the client and often run a zoom call, so we can make up the order together, with some pre-designed suggestions already lined up for viewing.
The framed prints are produced within the UK and can take 10-12 working days to be made. I prefer for them to come back directly to myself, so I can check them over and then arrange to drop them off to the client.
Here are a few images that illustrate the pet pawtrait session and journey from scouting a location to finished products.
